Electronics need special attention after a fire. Soot from burning plastics and other products gets inside the gear and begins a rapid oxidation process that causes two problems. The smell of smoke will never be gone from the piece and the oxidation will cause the eventual failure of the product. Sound Impressions Inc. will clean the case inside and out, followed by a cleaning, de-oxidiation and sealing of all circuit boards. If the piece has any optics or lenses, they will also be cleaned with the appropriate chemical to ensure no smudging or etching of the lense. Then there will be a bench test to ensure the product is in working order. This Level of detail is absolutely necessary in order to ensure that no smoke odor or other contamination from the piece occurs. We do not use an ultrasonic bath because surface mount technology will sustain damage from the oscillations. We feel the ultrasonic or de-ionized water bath is just not complete enough to call the job done.
